I've always wanted a red leather couch and I found one on Craigslist.
For Mother's Day my son-in-law Gary brought me a dozen red roses.
So sweet of him!
The coffee table in the foreground is one of my old creations,
acrylics and collage on an old TV table.

Two wingback chairs were waiting for me at the Goodwill store. I bought them for $15 each.
What I thought were just some nice chairs turned out be full-on recliners. Phil has been wanting a recliner for years, but I always thought of them as bulky monstrosities. I'm so pleased to find some that actually look good.
I had them re-upholstered by Adams & Moore Designs, a company I also found on Craigslist.

The upholstery fabric I chose was plain blank canvas (11 yards at WalMart). The blank canvas is, of course, so I can paint on it!
Billy Adams, a master upholsterer, and his partner, Donna Moore, are a delightful couple. After doing such a great job upholstering the chairs, Billy said, "They're perfect the way they are. Why do you want to paint them?" Good question. My painting them may well ruin them. But I guess I'll risk it.
I'm using acrylic paints mixed with Liquitex fabric medium. The medium keeps the acrylic paints from hardening the canvas. In some places I also use straight fabric paints. Hopefully, I'll finish painting both chairs by this weekend.
These are impressive, just by nature of their conception AND because they're from you, Ms. Creativity. I've been wanting to properly hear from you for a while now, but sharing this blog tells me your brain is hard at work and you are upgrading simply by bringing your whole being to the situation at hand. It is truly a joy to share your journey.

Thanks, Kate. Given the chance, you would have done the same. Even though the move (packing everything) eventually turned into an un-move (unpacking everything), it still took a lot out of me and I felt like doing absolutely nothing for a long time. Read a bunch of novels and ate chocolate. It's good to indulge every so often. So ggod to hear from you. Hope the weather is turning for the better for you.
